Sunday's Story: Braga's Warm Embrace

Hello from Braga, where my Portugal adventure has officially kicked off! After touching down in Porto, I decided to embrace a little "choose your own adventure" travel challenge and try the train to Braga. After two connections, a little bit of a language barrier, and one "whoops, wrong platform" moment, I waved the white flag and called an Uber. Sometimes, a girl just needs a direct line to her destination!

That direct line zipped me straight to my home base: the stunning Hotel Bracara Augusta. Let me tell you, this place is pure magic. It's a gorgeous, historical boutique hotel that feels less like a building and more like a storybook, right in the beating heart of the old city. From the moment I stepped through the door, the staff and owners made me feel like family. They happily took my bags, so I could dive straight into exploring while my room was being prepped.

A little pre-dinner nap later, and I was ready to get lost in the winding streets of Braga's historic core. The air here practically buzzes with life. Every corner turned into a new discovery—a secret cafe tucked away, a dazzling church facade, or a bustling square filled with locals enjoying the evening.

When hunger struck, I found my way to A Brasileira, a legendary spot that's been serving up history and flavor since 1907. I had to try their classic steak and ham sandwich, and it did not disappoint. The rumors are true: the portions here are unapologetically generous and absolutely delicious.

After a few glasses of fantastic local wine, I was happily ready for bed. My first official day in Braga was a perfect blend of old-world charm and modern-day delights, with a little train-travel comedy thrown in for good measure. The first big adventure awaits tomorrow, and I couldn't be more excited.
